10 Most Inspirational Indian Transgender Women Breaking the Gender Parities


Very recently, a video of a transgender woman got viral on social media platforms and garnered thousands of likes. This few minute video is a beautiful story of a transgender mother and her adopted daughter that depicts motherly love and affection knows no language or gender. The transgender woman in this captivating video is seen picking up her daughter from school while she is waiting eagerly for her waiting in the school. What a heart touching illustration of a mother-daughter bond that is much above the stereotypical demeaning societal ideologies regarding the transgender people. This Women's Day, let's celebrate the true love and affection in every women's heart, be it a transgender women working tirelessly for the betterment of children and the society as a whole.

Though, India has massively progressed to become the world's sixth largest economy and still developing at a much faster rate with education spreading in every nook and cranny of the country, but there are still some segments in the society that still promotes gender parities making the lives hell of several people. The per capita income of the people is piercing every threshold making this country counted amongst one of the most powerful countries; it still needs a strict reformation in its so-called true dogmas in relation to the transgender people. 1. Gauri Sawant: LGBT Rights Activist & a Mother to an adopted girl Gauri Sawant

She is the one casted in the beautiful video of which we have mentioned above. An LGBT rights activist by profession, she is a strong transgender women working shoulder to shoulder with other social activists of other genders. She is running an NGO by the name "Sakhi Char Chowghi" in Malad, Mumbai and is a proud mother to an adopted girl, Gayatri, whom she rescued from the clutches of human trafficking. Gauri is working hard for the betterment of her people by fighting for their rights to provide them with respectable lives

2. Laxmi Narayan Tripathi: Transgender rights activist Laxmi Narayan Tripathi

Working exceptionally in the field of transgender rights activist, Laxmi Narayan Tripathi is a well-known face for most of us. Bold, beautiful, and fearless, she is certainly a role model for most of the girls. She is the first transgender women representing Asia Pacific in the United Nation in 2008 and openly spoke about the lamentable plight faced by the sexual minorities in India at the hands of their own people. Laxmi is associated as a board member of various NGOs working for the rights of the LGBT people. In 2002, she also presided as a President of the NGO DAI Welfare Society which was the first organization for eunuchs in South Asia. Later in 2007, she incepted her own organization, Astitiva, promoting the well-being of the sexual minorities and towards their support and development.

3. Kalki Subramaniam: India's first transgender businesswoman Kalki Subramaniam

Her life story is an inspiration for not just her kind of people, but also for everyone. It is a demonstration of her invincible spirit and a sprint to have a normal life just like others. Having achieved the pedestal of being the country's first transgender businesswoman, her life journey was not a cup of tea. In spite of being born to loving parents, her life was no less than struggle owing to her identity. Her gender bolded the lines of difference between her and other people, but she never deviated from her goal of showing this world that she is no less than anyone else and deserves equal respect as others. Making education as her armor, she protected herself from the negativities and pain afflicted by the people on her. Today, she has double masters' degree in Mass Communication and International Relations and is renowned as an impeccable transgender entrepreneur worldwide.

4. Sathyasri Sharmila: India's first transgender lawyer Sathyasri Sharmila

The successful transgender female lawyer, Sathyasri Sharmila is a remarkable blow on the faces of people who consider transgender women as unequal and a piece of fun-making objects. She entered the government's judicial system with an aim to shun the stereotypical mindset behind the observance of transgender women in society and fight this injustice against them. Even though, she hails from one of the most literacy states of India, Sathyasri faced utter misconducts of people owing to her gender.

5. Joyita Mondal: India's first transgender judge Joyita Mondal

Her appointment in Lok Adalat in north Bengal in 2017 made Joyita Mondal the first transgender judge. As she was meticulously working for the rights of transgender by associating herself with several social welfare organizations, she decided to pursue a law degree to impart a legal deviation to her social work.

6. Manabi Bandopadhyay: India's first transgender college principal Manabi Bandopadhyay

The beautiful and gorgeous Manabi Bandopadhyay was the first transgender college principal of Krishnagar Women's College since 7th June 2015. Being a first transgender successfully completing her PhD in Philosophy, education played a driving factor in the attainment of this monumental achievement. At present, she is working as a professor of Philosophy.

7. Prithika Yashini: India's first transgender police officer Prithika Yashini

After combating the social beliefs, gender parities and many social prejudices surrounding LGBTs, Prithika Yashini became the first transgender police officer of Tamil Nadu. She is an avid example of bravery and indomitable spirits as even after being acquainted with the male chauvinism flowing in the police force, she decided t join it. Her application for the exam for police force was rejected several times mainly due to her gender as there were only two columns of 'Male' and 'Female' in the gender section. She fought a tough battle against 'Tamil Nadu Uniform Services Recruitment Board' to include 'transgender' in the application form which she later won.

8. Kamla Jaan: World's first transgender woman mayor Kamla Jaan

After contesting elections for the position of Mayor from the Katni district, Kamla Jaan became the first transgender woman mayor worldwide. But, in 2003, the High Court asked her to step down from this post as it was reserved for a 'woman' candidate. She did really exemplary work during her service like she sunk wells, renovated bus stations, and repaired damaged drains.

9. Padmini Prakash: India's first woman transgender television anchor Padmini Prakash

Padmini is another inspirational transgender woman who rose to fame after becoming the first transgender television news anchor in India. The news of her success got viral after court legalized transgender as a third gender. Having beautiful looks, Padmini had previously won various beauty pageants and other prizes.

10. Swetha Sudhakar: Founding member of Born2Win Social Welfare Trust Swetha Sudhakar

Tormented at schools for being a transgender, Swetha is now a founding member of an organization, Born2Win Social Welfare Trust that is transforming people's lives. Her life story is all about overcoming your differences and encouraging the needy through her social work. The organization has helped people in gaining education and providing employment opportunities to them.

Having read about these wonderful transgender women, the minds and hearts of people must have occupied with a combination of thoughts. Some of them must be feeling really proud of them, and some might be feeling a bit dejected at their own behaviors towards this class of society. God has created everyone equal; so, who are we to build a bridge of gender parities between us.
