Sania Mirza is one of the most famous tennis players in the world. She belongs to India and has made a name for herself in the world of tennis around the globe. Through out here career Sania has won a number of tennis tournaments. Sania was born on 15th of November 1986 in Mumbai and she is the India's sensation of the tennis team. In the initial years of her training she was coached by C G Krishna Bhupathi (father of Indian tennis star, Mahesh Bhupathi) and her father Imran Mirza. It was in the year 2003 that she turned out to be a professional tennis player. Both in singles and doubles championship, she holds the rank of being the highest ranked player in the game of tennis.

It was the wrist injury that led her career to a rough phase, but after recovering from the injury she started paying more heed to doubles and mixed doubles and that is the reason that led her to winning the Grand slam title. She has had some of the most successful partnership with Indian tennis star Mahesh Bhupati and also the Swiss player Martin Hingis. And, around the world, she is believed to be one of the best tennis players in the world who has ever represented India.

Early Life and Childhood


Sania was born to Naseema Mirza and Imran Mirza, on 15th of November 1986 in the state of Maharashtra in Mumbai. While her mother was in printing business, her father was engaged in construction business. She also has a younger sister. When Sania was a child, here family shifted from Mumbai to Hyderabad and there she started learning lawn tennis from her father. At the time that tennis came into her life, she was just around 6 years old. She went to Nasr School in Hyderabad.

She completed her graduation from St. Mary's College, but she always wanted to become a professional tennis player. To complete her dream desire of becoming a tennis star she just started taking part in the various tournaments played in India. It was in the year 2001 that she participated in the ITF tournament and won three tournaments in a row to making her name as a great tennis player in the upcoming years. In the following year that is in 2002 she participated in the Busan Asian Games, where she won Bronze medal in the mixed doubles game.

Career


2003: It was in the year 2003 that she turned out to be a professional and started involving herself in playing major tournaments of her career. In that very year she won the US Open Girls' doubles semi finals and Girls' Doubles title at the Wimbledon Championships. Also, in that year she participated in the Afro-Asian games held in Hyderabad and won 4 gold medals.

2004: From this year she became successful in WTA circuit and she also won at the AP tourism Hyderabad circle in the doubles title. Apart from this, she then also won 6 singles tit les in the ITF circuit.

2005: Here, she came out to be the best performer of the year by giving some great performances in the Grand Slams. She reached the 3rd round in the Australia Open and 2nd round in the Wimbledon and 4th round in the US open. And, for this she was awarded with the title of the 'WTA Newcomer of the Year' for the season.

2006: She was the first woman from India who participated in grand slam but unfortunately she could go far in the game.

2007: While she could not go far in the singles event but in the US Open, she reached to the quarter finals of both the games including the mixed doubles event and women's doubles.

2008: in this year Sania suffered from injury due which she also had to suffer in terms of her game. She had to back out from Us Open and French Open tournaments, and that was a great loss to her career. Also, she did not took part in the Beijing Olympics but in the following year she got her first grand slam title that is 'Australian Open Mixed Doubles Title', where she shared the game with Mahesh Bhupati. But, over the few years her game suffered a lot due to her injury.

2011: After a long journey with poor results and the first round of event in the singles titles, she started doing more over doubles games. Thereafter, she and her partner, Elena Vesnina played to the finals of the event of French Open.

2013: Mirza and Mattek-Sands participated in the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships and won the game. But, unfortunately, shecCould not make it to the Grand Slam and she started off playing with her new tennis Cara Black. And, they together won a number of titles in the following years.

2014:Cara Black and Mirza reached to the semi finals in the in the US Open tournament and she also won the mixed doubles title with her partner Bruno Soares. She also played for her team 'Indian Aces' and too it to the winning spree in the International Premier tennis League.

2015: In the year 2015, she partnered with Chinese player Hsieh Su-Wei and also with Bethanie Mattek Sands. But, it was only her partnering venture with Hingis that led her to success at the Indian Wells titles and at the 2015 Miami Open. In the same year, she teamed with Hingis to win the Wimbledon title and that was believed to be her first Grand slam win during a women's doubles title. Together they also have won US Open and WTA Finals 2015. Also, in the following year the duo played together to win Australian Open Women's doubles championship.

  • In 2004, the Government decorated her with the prestigious Arjuna Award which is one of the most well celebrated awards of the country.
  • In the year 2006, the Government of India, gave her the Padma Shri awards which the 4th civilian honor is given to Indians.
  • She was also honored with the Rajiv Gandhi Ratna Award in the year 2015.
  • In 2016, she was also honored with the 3rd highest civilian award of India that is Padma Bhusham by the Government of India.

  • In 2009, Sani Mirza was engaged to a businessman named Sohrab Mirza, but the wedding was called off because of the some personal reasons.
